Informal education is attributed to learning through any unstructured source of knowledge. The informal education focuses on generating values, whereas formal education focuses on giving knowledge. In my opinion, the informal education exists everywhere, either it is society or the school (formal system of education itself). The core focus of informal education is on development of values and belief systems. Here the knowledge and exposure provided in informal setting from society as well as from formal education is blended. Both society and school play vital role in development of value system that prevails in the society and is transferred to next generation.

Now, the technology is playing a vital role in the society, shaping its values and ways to live. This technology is also shaping value system due to extensive use of social media. It was first created to make the life easy for people, however, later it emerged as connecting tool among societies circumference the globe. Now the citizens of this world are not bound to geographical location, but are part of larger virtual life. This exposure, interaction and opportunity has created a great impact on the ways of living of the people, ways of earning, organizational structures, employment market and teaching learning process.

With the advent of AI, the technology is now the foundation stone of each sphere of society, new values are being generating, new job market and financial market is emerging. Teaching learning process is not an exception. Initially, use of technological tools was considered as modern AV aid in system of education. However, AI and virtual reality are maintaining their own objectives of learning, content selection, pedagogy and assessment procedures. Components or foundation stones of education system now have their own identities in teaching and learning process, thus making AI or technology as individual standalone type of education system.

This holds its individuality from being used merely as a tool to transfer knowledge to improve learning process. It is forming its shape based on its own philosophy, stance about students, interaction with students, learning objectives, existence and creation of knowledge, assessment procedures and job market. Thus, it an be considered as a new type of education system in addition to formal, non-formal and informal system of education.

Do you agree with this, let me know in comments!

Yes, I agree that technology can be used as separate mode of education as it makes it more flexible to learn through various kinds of educational apps. Moreover, it is accessible to diverse learners. Aditionally, it facilitates to have rich experiences in education.

Yes I agree with you on AI being a good source of information and knowledge as it is easily accessible and provides easy knowledge about anything and to some extent helps shaping values and beliefs. This is growing and it does have a scope of being a form of education system but in my opinion this shouldn’t happen even though AI and technology is a good tool for gaining knowledge and was created for our ease and better understanding for things but due to AI methods being developed into an education system, this can limit our human interactions and exposure to real life events. Doesn’t matter how much we learn and how easily we can access to data through AI,…

Yes, I agree with your perspective. Technology especially Artificial Intelligence is evolving beyond a supportive tool into a distinct mode of education. Unlike formal, non-formal, and informal systems, AI-driven education defines its own learning objectives, content, pedagogy, and assessment methods, often personalized and adaptive. Your argument that it now forms a standalone educational system is valid. It’s shaping not just how we learn, but also what we learn, based on real-time data, user interaction, and global demands. This shift also reflects in societal values, job markets, and knowledge creation proving that AI education is emerging with its own identity, not just enhancing the traditional systems.

Your distinction of different educational systems is insightful and timely.
