Though the teaching is very noble profession. It is usually referred to the profession of prophets. Economic growth of the country is dependent on quality of teachers directly. However, keeping in view the current practices, this profession is neither adequately paid not very respected.
The teachers in society are considered as people, who were unable to get any reasonable job, and ended up in teaching profession. Additionally many students in higher education, use teaching (in shadow education institutes) as source of income. Still the respect is missing element as part of teaching profession.
To explore root causes of this taboo, it is necessary to identify that either teaching is a profession or not. Teaching is considered as most ancient profession existed to current date in addition to medicine and judiciary. It has systematic and growing body of knowledge, it has strict rules and regulations for entry and promotion, and it has system of values and norms (code of ethics). These all features make it fall in category of profession technically. Second set of features for a profession is that it must involve some knowledge and skills, it must be paid and the people working in the field must be trusted as experts.
Now the element of trust is the essential component that make a profession respected and accepted in the society. The society trust a profession based on expertise of people working in the field, rules and regulations set by officials, salaries and economic perks attached, career growth and most importantly experience of people with the people working in the field. As in the case of Pakistan, the teaching is not considered as very good profession ( except for the females, where they are “allowed” as teachers, that it would not disturb their responsibilities at home. Additionally teachers are not respected by authorities, thus making them low paid and always questioned workers ( for example unplanned tests, corporal rules, derogatory remarks). These all had played a very important role in lowering the status of teaching profession in the society.
There is need to work in multiple dimensions to improve the position of teaching profession in society. For example; the change in policies about entry process, tests on attitude and aptitude, licensing and salaries. This will in turn bring change in opinion of teaching as profession in the society, thus brining positive image of the teachers.
yes, I agree with the statement that teachers are not respected in our society specially in our country Pakistan. In Islam teaching is a noble and respected profession who are providing their best knowledge to our generation for their better future but due to many portfolios in Pakistan they considering teaching profession in a negative way. I hope this generation understand the importance and try to enrich the value of teaching profession,

Factors Influencing the Establishment and Development of Professional Learning Communities: Local and International Perspectives
As an M.Phil. researcher, I have had the chance to extensively investigate many models and approaches in educational development, among which the idea of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) has become increasingly important in teacher professional development and school reform. PLCs, or groups of teachers working together methodically to improve their kids' academic achievement and teaching abilities, are cooperative entities. They stress reflective learning, group leadership, and an attitude toward ongoing development. But the founding and growth of PLCs are shaped by contextual, cultural, institutional, and policy-driven elements that vary greatly depending on local and global settings. Using localised experiences and global research, this essay critically…
Yes I agree with this statement that teachers are not respected in the society this is due to teachers negative behavior and their own attitude.
I agree with your statements that teaching is infact not respected as a profession due to the given reasons mainly in Pakistan and I do think that this profession needs these changes and rules to be applied to make it more valuable in society as this profession is one of the most important professions because without teachers and knowledge we as a nation won’t grow and can achieve nothing. This alone is enough to make people respect this profession.

Exactly!!
The teaching profession, once considered noble and respected, is in decline in Pakistan due to cultural and economic factors. It is increasingly seen as a job suited only for women, not out of gender equality, but because it aligns with traditional roles—offering short hours and long breaks that supposedly don’t interfere with household duties. As a result, men are moving toward better-paying, more prestigious careers, leaving a shortage of male educators and diminishing the status of teaching. This gendered perception not only devalues the profession but also weakens the education system overall.
