There were talks about women empowerment and then there was pandemic and then were more talks !!!!
Women empowerment has been a hot issue for last few decades, the labor economy wants women to join paid work and contribute to the generation of wealth. The women were mesmerized by dreams of independence and free life, however, keeping in ground realities it has increased burden on women, without increasing an ounce of pressure on men. The women in many cultures ( almost all cultures) are supposed to feed and raise the family, however, they took part in earning for some added income generation. The low wages and inequalities for working women were still under limelight and unsolved when a pandemic jolted the universe. Guess who was affected more? the women, they were more in number who were laid off from the job, they were more in number who faced dual responsibilities of taking care of family in terms of feeding and financing and they were more in the number who were crushed under the burden of socio-psycho and economic pressure of the pandemic than any other creature could be.
This claim seems very baised but the research studies carried out by ILO, UNDP, and Harvard present other picture, supporting the fact that women will be at least ten years back in their life in terms of social/ financial and professional growth and stability thus undoing the 25 years of work.
The women will face more challenges while returning to work, as the break from ( that might take more than six months ), and lack of updated skills may lead to permanent job loss. This situation may lead to square one in terms of gender equality, the condition will worsen in developing countries.
